Beacon People is a series of posts about u3a volunteers working on the Beacon project. Today we feature Marian Luck. Marian is one of the unsung heroes. She works behind the scenes keeping the Beacon project organised. The Beacon team know her and rely on her, but she may be less well known to Beacon users. This page attempts to address that injustice.
What is your name?
What u3a do you belong to?
What is your role in the Beacon team?
Team Admin and Recruitment.
What does your role entail?
Looking after records for the Beacon Team, writing and saving the notes from meetings to the relevant folder in Teams.
Sending invitations to meetings, both virtual and face to face (when we are allowed again) noting any dietary requirements they may have when lunches are being provided at physical meetings.
Being the point of contact for Beacon Supporters if they have problems they can’t sort out with their team lead.
Making first contact with prospective new Team members and ensuring that accurate records are kept of their journey along the way.
Various other bits and pieces.
What do you like best about your work with the Beacon team?
The camaraderie within the team and the fact that we are all working for the same outcome.
What are your greatest challenges?
Getting people to answer their emails.
What message do you have for Beacon users?
Beacon is a very good system and we look forward to Beacon 2 which will be even better.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Finally I would like to say thank you to all of the Beacon Team for their hard work and patience during the specification and development phase of Beacon2 and to all the u3a members who have provided us with suggestions and ideas of how Beacon can be improved.
